About the Firm

REN Legal is a commercial law firm, based in the City of London. Our core practice areas include corporate, finance, commercial real estate and dispute resolution.  We have particular expertise in the fields of aviation finance and private equity.  Clients include banks, listed and private companies, private equity funds, joint ventures, government authorities and high net worth individuals.  Most of our clients are based in the US, UK or Europe.

Providing our clients with high quality legal services is central to what we do.  We act for the same type of clients who instruct the big city firms, but instruct us for a more personalised service, an in depth knowledge of their industries, and delivery of legal services that are tailored to their specific requirements.  We aim to provide our clients with practical legal advice that recognises the commercial realities of their businesses and helps them achieve their goals.

As most of our work is cross-border, we work closely with recognised experts in other jurisdictions. We are therefore able to offer our clients access to legal expertise around the world as necessary.

About the training contract

We have vacancies for two trainees to start in September 2018, based at our offices in the City of London.

You will gain the same commercial experience as you would in a large City firm, but as part of a smaller and highly focussed team.  We all work in an open plan office, so you will receive constant supervision, and learn from those around you.  Working as part of the transaction team you will gain hands on experience, and more opportunities to meet clients and other professionals, than you would in a larger organisation.  As all our teams are lead by a partner, your work will be supervised and feedback provided by an experienced lawyer.

Our training contracts are non-rotational so you will work on transactional deals alongside contentious work as matters arise in the Firm.  You will gain a depth of experience in each practice area that stretches over the two years of your training contract rather than being restricted to six month blocks of each.  You will be involved in deals from instructions to closing, and will be involved in conference calls and meetings.

You will have or be expected to gain a 2:1 or better at degree level, and a commendation or better on the GDL, if applicable.  Offers of a training place will be made conditional on graduating from the LPC with a Commendation or better and you will be expected to take relevant commercial electives.  This is a full time training contract.

You need to be willing to take responsibility for your own learning, as well as for proactively progressing client matters in a timely manner.  It is important that you recognise the need to ask questions and check things with the partner who has conduct of the matter: this is a training position.

There will be a pay review at the end of your first year.
